Good news for app owners with loyal subscribers - Apple are changing the way their commission works by rewarding apps with loyal subscribers with an extra 15% of revenue. The split will move from 70/30 to 85/15 for those who have held on to a subscriber for a year or more – this will apply immediately to those who already have loyal subscribers.
Another significant change will allow apps in all categories to operate on a subscription basis, this is currently only open to apps with media and entertainment content.
Here at Duncan & Toplis our app is free to download and will remain that way! Would you be inclined to subscribe to an app to unlock more content or do you stick to downloading the free options like me?
The changes have been announced ahead of Apple's annual Worldwide Developers' Conference, or WWDC. More announcements are on the way, but it's traditional for WWDC to be more about software improvements than new hardware. Microsoft, Facebook and Google have already held their equivalent events, and at each, artificial intelligence was the main talking point. Will Apple offer the same?
